Recently, the Greater OKC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce turned the spotlight on OCCC, recognizing the college with the Outstanding Community Organization award.
Executive Director of the Greater OKC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, David Castillo said this about OCCC, "It's important for any business or organization to realize that its customers offer more than revenue. Identifying with the needs of the community and reaching out to help shows true dedication and social responsibility of any organization. Oklahoma City Community College continues to realize tremendous growth in its Hispanic student population and has really focused on improving the education of Hispanic students in the area."
In 2010 Hispanic students represented almost ten percent of the total student population at OCCC. These numbers are particularly significant considering Hispanic enrollment at Oklahoma public colleges and universities was 4.1 percent in 2009. Most impressively, the number of Hispanic students enrolling at OCCC has grown by more than 20 percent since 2006.
For more information on the award granted to the college from the Greater OKC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, please contact Gina Perry at ext. 7879.
